A Bag and Some Butterflies

Hello everyone!

I am sorry I haven’t been able to blog for a while now. My family has been super busy for the last couple of months. And now I am on the job hunt. I am really excited to get back to working now that my son is 1-year-old. I had an incredible vacation visiting my family back home in Georgia. I made my mother a ton of wash clothes and I made a new bag on the way back home. Sorry there isn’t a pattern I just made it up as I went along.

Mod Baby Stripe

Hello everyone,

It is still Wednesday but only just barely. I am late today getting online. Just way too much going on. My darling daughter also has soccer now on Wednesday’s and she is having great fun with that.

This week I pretty much only worked on my Mod Baby Stripe Blanket. It is coming along nicely. I added 3 rounds of sc around the edge. And I am still researching doing a fleece backing. I have never backed a blanket before and I am not familiar with sewing terms. So finding an easy tutorial has been a challenge. Mod Baby Stripe Blanket CrochetDo any of you have any experience with backing with fleece. For example can I just cut the fleece the exact same size as my crochet blanket then blanket stitch around the edge? Which I have never done might I add.

Or

Do I need to leave a seam allowance and fold that under? I am going to probably do this by hand. So the simplest way is what I am looking for. But I also want it to look professional. I really get stubborn once I have an idea of what I want to do. Usually I end of creating my own method. Maybe I will end up doing that this time too!

here is a pic of my ends – Mod Baby Stripe Blanket CrochetAnd a photo with the single crochet edge – Though difficult to see on the black backdrop. This is btw some of the fleece I was considering using for the backing. Mod Baby Stripe Blanket CrochetI am a die-hard perfectionist and would really appreciate any of your comments on how to finish this blanket! hehe don’t be afraid to leave a comment :-).

On a lighter note I really have enjoyed making the granny stripe blanket and I have plans to make many more. I am even thinking of writing up an infinity scarf pattern with a stitch like this for the fall.

Look forward to talking to you!

Filler Project: Spa Washcloth

Hello Everyone!

This week was so busy! I did not have a lot of time to work on my new blanket project but I did have a few minutes here and there, between the AH, OOPS, MOMMY moments and of course the packing to move. So I decided to fill those moments with a quick and easy project, wash cloths.

crochet spa washclothCrochet wash cloths are so easy to make and there are many patterns. One of my favorites is the sc/dc skip stitch pattern. I do not know really what the actual name of this stitch is.

crochet spa washclothI have seen it used in many projects but never seen a real name. Does anyone know? Leave a comment!

This is the same stitch that I used in my SunRise Placemat Set. crochet spa washclothI don’t know if you can tell from the photos but there are little specs of green in the white wash cloths as well. That is why I made a green one for this set.

crochet spa washclothI will be listing this set in my Etsy shop, GiftsByCricket, later tonight. So if you would like to buy this set you can do so there. Or if you would like to request a set like this made in another color feel free to send me a message.

That’s all for this week! Next week I expect to have my modern baby stripe blanket finished so keep a watch out for that.

Until then, Keep those hooks moving!

Ocean Waves Baby Blanket

I am finished! Well nearly finished I still have to sew in my tails but it is finished enough for my weekly update!

What do you think?

crochet ocean waves baby blanket made by crochet cricketThis is a free pattern from Red Heart Yarn. Just search ‘ocean wave’.

I decided that I wanted to try to square the blanket. So I didn’t just sc around. I did a mix of sc,hdc,dc,tr. And it came out pretty square.

ocean waves baby blanket made by crochet cricketYou can see that I decided to use the brown for the border. It balances the blanket nicely.

ocean waves baby blanket made by crochet cricketSorry that we didn’t have a large area for me to lay out the blanket. At least not one with natural light. This is my second baby blanket. The first one was a very small granny square blanket that was actually my first project. I have come a long way since then. I am very proud of this blanket.

It will be a gift for my new nephew due this fall.

The only tips I can give for this blanket it use a smaller hook. I would definitely use a 5 mm hook if I choose to make another blanket. I just would have liked it to be a little tighter.

Hope you guys enjoy this post. Have a great day!

Crochet Cardigan

I recently shared a free crochet cardigan pattern with you guys from Lion Brand Yarns.

Here is my version of this pattern.

crochet cardigan This is the very first piece of real clothing I have made. Meaning there are sleeves. I really love this pattern for a beginner in crochet clothes. I was simple and gives you a good understanding and basic shaping techniques. The bobble, ch,bobble stitch is lovely as well it looks kinda like an upside down shell.

crochet cardiganMy daughter is 4 years old. She wears a size 5-6 because she is so tall. So this size 6-8 is too big for her right now. But she really likes it. She is having a bit of fun being silly in her room.

I still need to add a button or toggle for a closure. I will definitely make another one of these and I will give re-sizing it a try.

What do you think?

Modern Granny Stripe Baby Blanket

Hello everyone!

Sorry I couldn’t get my update posts up yesterday, I just couldn’t get to it. But, I am really excited about this new pattern I have found. It is for a granny stripe blanket. It is a very nice modern take on the classic granny square and if your granny squares lean like mine do you will really enjoy the straight lines in this project.

Basically you begin with one long chain. Depending on the size of the blanket you want to make. My blanket is for a baby so I only chained 99 (needing a multiple of 3). I will add a border when I am finished.

I am using 4 colors. White stripes flow between each of the colored rows.

crochet modern granny stripe baby blanketI am using 100% cotton. I want to back this blanket with fleece or flannel. Have any of you lined a crochet blanket? How do you do it?

crochet modern granny stripe baby blanketI am really enjoying this blanket. It is a really quick and easy pattern. Once you get past the 2nd row it works up so fast. I love it! Great project for those days when you just want to hook and not think too much about it. You can find a tutorial on this pattern at attic24.

I hope you guys enjoy this post. What do you think of my color combinations?

Leave a comment! I look forward to hearing from you.

Ocean Waves Afghan 80% finished

I am also working on an Ocean waves baby afghan for my sister-in-law. I am about 80% finished. I will do another wave and a border around. Here is how it looks so far.

crochet oceanwavesafghan If I make another one of these Afghans I will use a 5mm instead of a 5.5mm. But I think my next blanket in waves will be without the back loops only stitching. I am thinking I would like to do a ripple blanket. This one is really nice because it gives a 3D effect.

This is a free pattern from Red Heart. Just search their directory for Ocean Waves.

Have fun!
