Mod Baby Stripe

Hello everyone,

It is still Wednesday but only just barely. I am late today getting online. Just way too much going on. My darling daughter also has soccer now on Wednesday’s and she is having great fun with that.

This week I pretty much only worked on my Mod Baby Stripe Blanket. It is coming along nicely. I added 3 rounds of sc around the edge. And I am still researching doing a fleece backing. I have never backed a blanket before and I am not familiar with sewing terms. So finding an easy tutorial has been a challenge. Mod Baby Stripe Blanket CrochetDo any of you have any experience with backing with fleece. For example can I just cut the fleece the exact same size as my crochet blanket then blanket stitch around the edge? Which I have never done might I add.

Or

Do I need to leave a seam allowance and fold that under? I am going to probably do this by hand. So the simplest way is what I am looking for. But I also want it to look professional. I really get stubborn once I have an idea of what I want to do. Usually I end of creating my own method. Maybe I will end up doing that this time too!

here is a pic of my ends – Mod Baby Stripe Blanket CrochetAnd a photo with the single crochet edge – Though difficult to see on the black backdrop. This is btw some of the fleece I was considering using for the backing. Mod Baby Stripe Blanket CrochetI am a die-hard perfectionist and would really appreciate any of your comments on how to finish this blanket! hehe don’t be afraid to leave a comment :-).

On a lighter note I really have enjoyed making the granny stripe blanket and I have plans to make many more. I am even thinking of writing up an infinity scarf pattern with a stitch like this for the fall.

Look forward to talking to you!

Ocean Waves Baby Blanket

I am finished! Well nearly finished I still have to sew in my tails but it is finished enough for my weekly update!

What do you think?

crochet ocean waves baby blanket made by crochet cricketThis is a free pattern from Red Heart Yarn. Just search ‘ocean wave’.

I decided that I wanted to try to square the blanket. So I didn’t just sc around. I did a mix of sc,hdc,dc,tr. And it came out pretty square.

ocean waves baby blanket made by crochet cricketYou can see that I decided to use the brown for the border. It balances the blanket nicely.

ocean waves baby blanket made by crochet cricketSorry that we didn’t have a large area for me to lay out the blanket. At least not one with natural light. This is my second baby blanket. The first one was a very small granny square blanket that was actually my first project. I have come a long way since then. I am very proud of this blanket.

It will be a gift for my new nephew due this fall.

The only tips I can give for this blanket it use a smaller hook. I would definitely use a 5 mm hook if I choose to make another blanket. I just would have liked it to be a little tighter.

Hope you guys enjoy this post. Have a great day!

Fantasy Friday: Crochet Collar Pattern

This is the most adorable crochet collar I have seen. In the tradition of the Peter Pan collar, this is a free pattern for a collar that can be added a dress or blouse. It really gives the outfit some style.

It really reminds of something straight out of a fairy tale. I just love it. I am looking forward to trying this pattern for my daughter.

Enjoy the Long Holiday for Memorial Day! Have fun!

Ocean Waves Afghan 80% finished

I am also working on an Ocean waves baby afghan for my sister-in-law. I am about 80% finished. I will do another wave and a border around. Here is how it looks so far.

crochet oceanwavesafghan If I make another one of these Afghans I will use a 5mm instead of a 5.5mm. But I think my next blanket in waves will be without the back loops only stitching. I am thinking I would like to do a ripple blanket. This one is really nice because it gives a 3D effect.

This is a free pattern from Red Heart. Just search their directory for Ocean Waves.

Have fun!

Color Me Pretty Purse

Good Day everyone!

Wednesday’s are update days. This week I made this purse set for a friend. She picked out the style of purse and the colors and strap size. I simply put it all into crochet. This purse is for a 6-year-old. I am considering redesigning this purse as a clutch for us big girls.

crochet bag Color me pretty purseI used the same triple layer flower that I have featured in this week’s Fun with Flowers Post.

crochet bag Color Me Pretty PurseI created a lining by hand, I do not yet have a sewing machine. I am really pleased with this lining. It is the best one I have made so far. With some really fun and colorful cupcakes, this lining goes perfectly with the color scheme of this project.

I made a slimmer strap for this bag. And I used a contrasting color yarn to do some special stitch work all the way around.

crochet bag Color Me Pretty PurseThis is a set because it is not just a bag. There is also a hair clip and butterfly key ring in the same color scheme. I really love how this set came out. I am going to make another similar set soon to put into my shop GiftsByCricket. So keep watch for it.

What do you guys think? I would love to know! Remember I am also on Facebook and Pinterest and would love to chat with you about the best hobby in the world, Crochet!

Have fun!

WIP Week

Hello everyone!

It is Wednesday, my weekly update day and I usually have some finished work to show but not this week. This week is pure work in progress.

I have spent many hours this week working behind the scenes. Working on my website and on opening my etsy shop. If you would like to see my shop you can click the link in the sidebar or HERE. My shop name is ‘GiftsByCricket’. I only have a few items listed so far but will be adding more soon. I am new to the Etsy world. I would really appreciate any advice you guys have for me about running my shop.

I have also been doing a lot of hat testing on my cloche pattern which I have named ‘Lannahbelle’s Cloche’ after my daughter. I am also working on some flowers for a request for headbands and clips. Have a look!

Flowers

crochet flowersI have been testing flower patterns trying to find ones that will work for the clips and headbands I am making. I will put together a post of free flower patterns hopefully for our free pattern Monday. I want to try a few more first. I am having a great time making these flowers!

Hats

crochet hats wipsLike I said…testing! hehe I am satisfied with the fit of the size 4-6 years old. I have the adult size nearly finished but it is a little loose on the head. I may need to work in some elastic.

adult cloche hatI added an edging to the adult cloche hat I was working on. And I will add a flower soon. Once I choose a favorite. It is hard to decide which flower I like better.

adult cloche hatI would like your opinion on something. Do you like the smaller white edged flower or the larger more colorful flower for this pink hat?

Cloche hat and Handbag Sets

I am considering using the two very colorful flowers on my next cloche and little lady handbag set. Do you like it or should I stick with the white as the accent color?

Well that’s it for this week. Hopefully next week I will have a bunch of finished projects to show you guys!

Don’t forget to visit my new Etsy shop! You can also follow Crochet Cricket on Pinterest and Facebook. Just check the sidebar for the links!

Have a great week everyone!
